"Comfort kills ambition."
- Jesse Itzler
I’m back at the airport, you'd think it's like riding a bike. Maybe it's like riding a bike, but you're in that phase of training wheels on, training wheels off, depending on the day and how much patience your dad or mum had that avro because I'm still here at the airport without putting my book or journal in my carry-on... only to realise that once I've checked in my bags.
I look at the bookstores and just know that it's a waste of money because I've got half a dozen books at home waiting for me already.
And not to mention leaving my power bank on my check-in so my name gets called over the speakers 3 times before border security tells me that I can’t come back from the international side as I’ve technically left Australian customs. Thanks to Juila, the super friendly and bubbly Jetstar worker who ran the length of the airport to come and get me to remove the power bank from my check-in. Thank Julia, and congratulations on your City To Bay PB.
I always have to run pre-flight and go see my grandparents; they're my non-negotiables. Oh, and getting to the airport 4 hours early. Especially if I'm packing for an event or heading away for a while. Yesterday was like no other fly-out day. 5 a.m. run, talking and solving the world's problems with my mate JB. Home to coffee and coconut yogurt with a side of PB and the last of my granola I've been rationing out over the last few days to save on buying a new one before heading away for 5 weeks.
I had two events to pack for.
I've got Bali Hope Swim Run, so had to channel that energy and then move on to Nepal's expedition. My first mountaineering adventure.
As always on packing day, your brain takes you to other places as you go through your gear (maybe it’s just me?) and you start playing around with other stuff you forgot you had or find an old book so you run over a few pages first.
Procrastination at its finest. One of my greatest strengths.
So many new toys come with Nepal's expedition. So many "what the heck do I need all this for?" And a few "goodness me, it must get cold up there" thoughts as I do what any excited kid does with new toys and try it all on for fun.
2 bags going through check-in. Never traveled with so much gear.
As my Nan said to me yesterday before giving her a hug: "Another big adventure coming up with many stories to share."
And that is just what I’ll do, come home. Sit on the outside couch and share stories with her.
As I get ready to leave, I always remind myself of this:
all the world asks from you is to be open-minded and kind to others.
Excited to document my journey and share more with you over the next couple of months.
Big love.
